Bà Dàbûyu̽

Bà Dàbûyu̽ (/bə/ /dəˈbʊju̽/ [cream] [waist]) is a temperate Town located in Puqasube Parish, Bæru̽sa Vu̽ Empire, within the Warrenese Shogunate.

The name Bà Dàbûyu̽ is derived from the Wareneese language, as Bà Dàbûyu̽ was founded by Yawm Yó̄̌ 'Stella Jade' Bé̄shvó̄ Yaw̋ch Mé̄kīs Tresh, who was culturaly Wareneese.

Climate

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a yearly average temperature of 3°C (37°F), with its average temperature during the summer being an icy 27°C (80°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool -21°C (-5°F). Bà Dàbûyu̽ receives an average of 296 cm/y (116 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Bà Dàbûyu̽ covers an area of nearly 6 km² (2 mi²), and an average elevation of 3332 m (10931 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Bà Dàbûyu̽ was founded durring the early 12th century in fall of the year 1133, by Yawm Yó̄̌ 'Stella Jade' Bé̄shvó̄ Yaw̋ch Mé̄kīs Tresh. The establishment of Bà Dàbûyu̽ was somewhat plagued by a lack of willing colonists, leading to Yawm Yó̄̌ 'Stella Jade' Bé̄shvó̄ Yaw̋ch Mé̄kīs Tresh electing to pay people to resettle in Bà Dàbûyu̽.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ was built using the conventions of Wareneese durring the early 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Bà Dàbûyu̽ is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ is buildings are arranged arround a network of narrow cobblestone streets which form a diagonal shaped grid, where each square verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller square has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town is the proud owner of a properly designed set of renforced walls made from mighty querried stone blocks. Their construction and material choices would make a dwarf weap with joy, for each and every part of the elaborate fortifications are purly functional and robust well byond reason. Even nonexperts can tell the walls are an excelent defencive structure. The town's exceptionaly well made fortifications have recently undergone extensive repairs and renovations, such that the repairwork is imeadiently apparent and can be spotted due to the diffring ages of materials. One can't help but wonder what brought the need for those repairs to the town.

Before you’ve even set foot into the heart of Bà Dàbûyu̽, you can smell it. The incense. It hangs about the town like a cloud. Monks, priests, and clerics are everywhere, all dedicated to the same god, all performing the same rituals to bless and anoint buildings, streets, people, animals, you name it they are or have blessed it. The same holy symbol is everywhere too. Its on buildings, on people, and even branded into livestock. This certainly loves its god. More than it loves wealth. The town is very clearly poor. Buildings are run down in ways that are not imeadiatly obvious. The people are a bit too thin. The market is very eager to sell to newcomers, but not so eager to buy from them. There’s also a general lack of the hum and buzz of healthy industry in Bà Dàbûyu̽.

Civic Infrastructure

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has an animal control department which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the control, impoundment, and disposition of animals.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within Bà Dàbûyu̽. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Bà Dàbûyu̽'s parks.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Bà Dàbûyu̽.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a Hall of Slayers, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Bà Dàbûyu̽'s public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. These lights provide nighttime illumination to most city streets.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a first rate hospital which caters to anyone in need of long term medical care.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Bà Dàbûyu̽'s natural decorations nor waterways.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Bà Dàbûyu̽ has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Bà Dàbûyu̽'s locals despise outsiders. For some “outsiders” may be natives of foreign lands, while others might have a grudge against anyone from outside the community. These locals have an active loathing, and the outsiders allowed to trade or interact with them do so at a heavy disadvantage.

Bà Dàbûyu̽'s mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used makes use of a large oblong hall or building with double colonnades and a semicircular apse and symmetrical central-plan, resulting in buildings with a square central mass and four arms of equal length. Decorative features included domed rooves, arches, soaring spaces, and sumptuous decoration: marble columns and inlay, mosaics on the vaults, inlaid-stone pavements, and sometimes gold coffered ceilings.

Due to the actions of local Kami, winter is skipped in Bà Dàbûyu̽.

The Blood Hawk near Bà Dàbûyu̽ are known to be quite timid.

Bà Dàbûyu̽'s citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in autumn and involves sex to channel Wild Magic energies of tier 2 via mimery.
